How Auto Publishing Works in Repurpose
Overview
Repurpose offers two different auto publishing modes, depending on how you want your content to be published. This article explains the differences between each mode, how future and existing content are handled, and how workflow refresh timing works.
Auto Publish Modes in Repurpose
Repurpose currently supports two auto publishing modes:
- As Soon As Possible: Best for automatically publishing new content as soon as it’s detected, usually within 2 hours. Only works with future content and does not follow a schedule.
- Auto Publish Based on a Schedule: Best for publishing content on specific days and times. Supports existing content, future content, or both, depending on your workflow settings.
Each mode behaves differently and is designed for different publishing workflows. You can switch between modes anytime from your Workflow Settings.
Option 1: As Soon As Possible
This mode automatically publishes content as quickly as possible after new content is detected from your source platform, without following a set schedule.
This mode only works with future content and ignores any existing content already available on the source platform before the workflow was activated. Only content created or uploaded after the workflow becomes active will be auto published.
Important: Auto publishing is not immediate.
Even when using the “As Soon As Possible” mode, publishing is not immediate.
Auto publishing workflows check for new content approximately every 2 hours. This means there may be a delay between uploading content to your source platform and Repurpose detecting and publishing it.
Option 2: Auto Publish Based on a Schedule
This mode publishes content based on the publishing schedule you configure. You can define:
- Publishing days
- Publishing times
- Up to 5 publishing slots per day
Repurpose will automatically publish one piece of content per scheduled slot.
How Existing and Future Content Work
By default, scheduled auto publishing works with existing content already available on the source platform, ignoring future content. However, you can customize this behavior using the Content Filter settings to include future content as well if desired. Available options include:
- Only Future Content: publishes only new content uploaded to the source platform after the workflow becomes active
- Existing Content: publishes only content already available on the source platform at the time the workflow is activated
- All Content: publishes both existing and future content
How to Trigger a Manual Refresh
If you do not want to wait for the next automatic refresh, you can manually force Repurpose to check your source platform immediately.
Steps
- Open the workflow.
- Click the Check Now button under the Content section
This will immediately trigger the workflow to check for newly available content from the source platform.
FAQs
Can I use both modes at the same time?
No. Each workflow can only use one Auto Publish mode at a time — either As Soon As Possible or Based on a Schedule.
What if I don’t want to wait for the 2-hour check?
You can manually refresh your workflows using the “Check Now” button inside each individual workflow under the Content section.
How do I change a workflow that's currently set to publish existing content so it starts publishing future content instead?
To switch from publishing existing content to future content, you have two options you can adjust in the workflow settings. If you prefer to publish your future content on a set schedule, you can keep the auto-publish mode that existing workflows use (repurpose content based on a schedule) and then update the content filter field to "future content only". On the other hand, if you’d rather publish new content as soon as possible without following a set schedule, you can change the auto-publish mode field to "as soon as possible." This will publish videos roughly 2 hours after they’re uploaded to the source platform, without waiting for a fixed schedule.
How do I change a workflow that's currently set to publish future content so it starts publishing existing content instead?
To switch from future to existing content, if your current auto-publish mode is set to "as soon as possible," you’ll need to change it to "repurpose content based on a schedule" in order to publish existing content. From there, you can further narrow the scope using the content filter and date filter fields if needed. And if you're already using a schedule-based auto-publish mode and the content filter field is set to future content only, you can switch it to existing content only or all content to include both existing and future posts.
Need to prevent a specific video from being published automatically?
Auto Publish does not currently support excluding individual videos directly. However, there are several ways to prevent specific videos from being published depending on your workflow configuration. See: How to Prevent Specific Videos from Being Auto Published
What happens if my workflow is deactivated and later reactivated?
Behavior depends on whether the workflow uses Auto Publish Based on a Schedule or Auto Publish As Soon As Possible. See: What Happens When an Auto Publish Workflow Is Reactivated?
