What Happens When an Auto Publish Workflow Is Reactivated?

Overview

If your workflow becomes inactive and is later reactivated, or if you disable Auto Publish and then turn it back on, whether previously missed videos will be published depends on the workflow's auto-publishing method.

Workflows configured to publish based on a schedule can continue publishing content that falls within their publishing scope after reactivation. However, workflows configured to publish As Soon As Possible only process future content and will not automatically publish videos that were uploaded while the workflow was inactive.

This article explains what happens after reactivation for each auto-publishing mode and how to handle videos that were missed during the inactive period.

Auto Publish Based on a Schedule

When using Auto Publish Based on a Schedule, the workflow automatically publishes videos that fall within its configured publishing scope.

If the workflow becomes inactive and is later reactivated, or if the Auto Publish option is turned off and then turned back on, the workflow will continue publishing eligible content according to its current configuration.

As long as the videos fall within the workflow's publishing scope, they can still be auto-scheduled and published after reactivation.

Auto Publish As Soon As Possible

When using Auto Publish As Soon As Possible, the workflow only processes future content.

If the workflow becomes inactive and is later reactivated, or if the Auto Publish option is turned off and then turned back on, any videos uploaded during that inactive period will not be automatically published once the workflow is reactivated.

After reactivation, the workflow will resume monitoring for new videos and will automatically publish only content uploaded going forward. Videos that were uploaded while the workflow was inactive must be handled manually. You can either:

  • Use the Schedule button next to each video within the workflow to publish them manually.
  • Use a workflow configured to publish existing content and adjust its publishing scope so it includes the missed videos.

Summary

The behavior after reactivation depends on the auto-publishing method being used:

  • Auto Publish Based on a Schedule: Continues publishing content that falls within the workflow's publishing scope after reactivation.
  • Auto Publish As Soon As Possible: Only publishes new content uploaded after reactivation and does not automatically publish videos that were uploaded while the workflow was inactive. If videos were missed while the workflow was inactive, they can be manually scheduled or included through a workflow configured to publish existing content.
