How do thumbnails work in Repurpose?

Don't have a Repurpose.io account? Sign up for free here!

When a video is repurposed, the original thumbnail from the source platform doesn’t carry over, only the video itself does (exceptions may apply, see below).

However, when publishing manually from Repurpose, you can upload a custom thumbnail or select a frame from the video. These options may vary depending on the platform you’re posting to, and not all platforms support both. You’ll see what’s available during the publishing setup.

If you’re publishing automatically, Repurpose doesn’t set a thumbnail. The destination platform handles that instead. Most platforms typically choose the first frame of the video, but not always, some may select a different frame. This is entirely up to each platform and out of our control.

Exceptions:

  • If your source is YouTube videos (not Shorts) and your destination is Facebook Videos (not Reels), you can transfer the original YouTube thumbnail to Facebook. This option can be enabled within the workflow settings and is labeled “Upload thumbnail to Facebook”

  • If your source is Facebook videos, not reels, and your destination is YouTube, you can transfer the original Facebook thumbnail to YouTube. This option can be enabled within the workflow settings and is labeled “Upload FB thumbnail to YouTube”
