How Auto Publishing Works in Repurpose

Repurpose offers two types of Auto Publishing modes that let you automate how and when your content is shared across platforms. This article explains the difference between As Soon As Possible publishing and Scheduled publishing, so you can choose the mode that best fits your workflow.

Auto Publish “As Soon As Possible” (ASAP)

This mode publishes your content automatically as soon as it’s detected from your source — typically within about 2 hours after it’s uploaded on your source platform. Here's how it works:

  • Repurpose checks your connected sources every 2 hours on average for new content.
  • When new content is found, it’s automatically processed and published as soon as possible — usually right after detection, which is why most posts go live within that 2-hour window.
  • There is no fixed schedule or specific publishing times involved.

Key Details

  • ✅ Works only with future content (anything created after enabling Auto Publish).
  • 🚫 Existing content at the time of activation is ignored.
  • ⚙️ Ideal for creators who want fast, hands-free republishing without managing time slots or schedules.

Auto Publish “Based on a Schedule”

This mode gives you more control over when your content gets published by defining specific days and time windows. Here's how it works:

  • You define publishing windows (e.g., Monday–Friday between 9 AM and 1 PM).
  • Repurpose automatically publishes content within those time slots.
  • You can include existing content, new content, or both, depending on your workflow setup.

If your workflow is configured to also include new content, Repurpose will check your source every 2 hours (same as ASAP mode) - When new content is detected, it will automatically be queued for the next available time slot in your schedule — ensuring that even new uploads follow your defined posting rhythm.

Key Details

  • 🗓️ Supports up to 5 time slots per day (or 10 for Snapchat workflows).
  • ⏱️ Requires a 2-hour gap between slots.
  • ⚙️ Works with both new and existing content, depending on your filters.
  • 🔁 Perfect for teams or brands that want to maintain a consistent posting rhythm.

Fetching Content Manually

If you don’t want to wait for the next automatic refresh or need to update it sooner, you can manually trigger Repurpose to check your source right away by clicking the Fetch Content button (cloud icon with a downward arrow). It’s available in two places:

  • On the Workflows page (top-right corner) → refreshes all workflows at once.
  • Inside an individual workflow (top-right corner after clicking View Workflow) → refreshes only that workflow.

Choosing the Right Mode

As Soon As Possible (ASAP) mode is ideal when you want Repurpose.io to automatically publish new uploads as soon as they’re detected — typically within two hours of appearing on your source platform.

Based on a Schedule mode is better when you want to control exactly when your content is published by setting specific days and times. It can handle both existing and new content, and any new uploads will be auto scheduled for the next available time slot after detection.

You can switch between modes at any time from your Workflow Settings - accessed by clicking the gear icon ⚙️ in the top-right corner of the workflow.

FAQ

Can I use both modes at the same time?

No. Each workflow can only use one Auto Publish mode at a time — either As Soon As Possible or Based on a Schedule.

What happens if I disable Auto Publish and re-enable it later?

If you re-enable Auto Publish, Repurpose will resume following your previous settings (mode and schedule) unless you change them in your Workflow Settings.

What if I don’t want to wait for the 2-hour check?

You can manually refresh your workflows using the Fetch Content button (cloud icon with a downward arrow). It’s available on the Workflows page and inside each individual workflow, letting you detect and publish new content immediately instead of waiting for the next 2-hour scan.
